My (almost) Finished Paper Bag Smash Book

Yes, I did it.  I made my own Paper Bag Smash Book!

At a "get ready for Girls Camp" meeting with my cohort for the 3rd years a few weeks ago, we were busy trying to come up with ideas for . . . you guessed it,  "Girls Camp."  One of the ideas that my cohort brought to the table was Paper Bag Journals for the girls.  Paper Bag Journals?  Now not knowing anything about paper bag journals, that was my reaction.  Well it was more like "really?"  But outside I was all for it.  

Later at home I decided to find out what a paper bag journal was, so I headed for my all favorite "Pinterest."  I found all kinds of paper bag journals on there, but all the ones I liked didn't have any kind of tutorials, just pictures.  So I ended up googling "how to make a paper bag journal" and found this awesome Youtube video (well it's actually split into 3 videos) with step by step instructions on how to make your own Paper Bag Journal.  While watching the video I proceeded to make my own.  

I didn't have any double stick tape so I used a glue stick.  Well that just took forever and was a mess, so I ran (drove) to the store and got me some double stick tape at Joann's in the scrapbooking section.  And yes, I had my 40% off coupon.  I have now almost completed my very own Paper Bag Journal, which I have renamed "Smash Book" because I think that it sounds way more cool.  

One of the coolest features of the Paper Bag Smash Book (Journal) is all the pockets.  There's multiple pockets on every page, so the girls have places to put their mementos.  I do however need some more ideas on what to do in the pages, so it's not quite completed.  If you have any I'd love to hear them.  I was thinking a page for the hike and one for the devotionals.  That's two down.

Tower of Flour (Babel) Mutual Activity

Our awesome Young Women’s president came up with an activity that I think was one of our favorites this year.  The Tower of Flour.  She tied a lesson into this activity about the Tower of Babel and how the people at that time chose the wrong way to try to get up to heaven, and how we need to “Come unto Christ” to be able to be with him again.  We then played this way fun game with the flour.
How to play

• First you stack flour into a bowl of whatever size you are wanting your tower to be.  We just used small mixing bowls.
• Next turn the bowl over onto the table and remove the bowl off of the tower.
• Then set something small (we used chocolate chips) in the center of the tower.
• Everyone then takes turn taking slices out of the tower with a butter knife.
• Whoever causes the tower to collapse then has to pick out the chocolate chip with their mouth.

As you can see the youth had a blast.

What do we know about the nature of the Godhead Power Point Presentation

This year in our Young Women's program we have a new theme that I absolutely love.  It is "Come Unto Christ".  I am loving all of the awesome sites out there that share such great ideas to go along with this years theme.  I have been able to utilize many of the posts shared by other bloggers and I am so grateful for the ideas and insights.  For this lesson on "What do we know about the nature of the Godhead?", I chose to make a power point due to the lack of ink in my printer.  I know...sad right?  What happened to good old pen and paper?  Well I guess I have gotten pretty lazy with all of today's wonderful technology.  Plus when I got started making this power point I found I was having a lot of fun.  I will have to control myself in the future to not do all of my lessons on power point.  

I wanted to share this power point with anyone who would like to use it, so feel free to copy it to your computer for your personal or classroom use.  

I know with this months topic on the Godhead I have been learning quite a bit.  This week I have been going over the materials from Come, Follow Me 's lesson on What are the roles of the Holy Ghost.  I absolutely love the talks by Craig C. Christensen and Boyd K. Packer. I am so grateful for their testimonies and how it has strengthened mine.  

Girls Camp "Daughter of a King"

I decided that I wanted to share one of my favorite books with the girls while at camp.  This book is called “Daughter of a King” by Rachel Ann Nunes.  This book was given to one of my daughters several years ago for her birthday from her Grandma.  There is such a wonderful message in this book and it truly pertains to all of us.  I wanted to have something to give the girls to go along with this.  I have a whole bunch of these wooden squares left from a project I was doing last year, so I thought I could make a pendant out of them.  I printed out the little message and mod podged them onto the painted wooden squares.  After several layers of mod podge I put some resin on top and let dry overnight.  I then drilled the holes and threaded onto some cord.  I embellished with some beads.

I will have to let you know how these do at camp.  Wish me luck.
